Truly disturbing...

http://suicidefood.blogspot.com/2007/10/corruption-of-childhood.html

Awesome blog, about depictions of animals that are welcoming their fate as our foodstuff. Now, I'm a carnivore, but man, this is making me a vegan.

Not really.

Nolie's 5 tomorrow! Had a great moment yesterday -- Her huge stuffed giraffe became a motorcycle, and the following exchange ensued:

"I ride a motorcycle! Anyone messes with me, I'm gonna go crazy!"
"Oh really, what are you going to do?"
"I'm gonna jump around and dance and play and everything!"
"Wow, that's scary!"

(Pause)

"Not with you, though. Not with any big people. Just little kids."

At that point, I wasn't sure whether to admonish her for picking on little kids, or laud her for having the sense not to mess with big people.

A long weekend, and a small tribute...

There's something to be said for having a Daddy weekend "ruined" by the child being sick. There's a closeness engendered by being the caretaker.

As long as you don't get sick yourself. (There I go again, tempting fate)

There's a good Daddy feeling, when she comes to me at 2AM because she doesn't feel good. Daddy will always take care of her.

On another note, today is 4 months since my first date with Gina.

And they've been a great 4 months. It's been a constant revelation to me. First, the sheer awesomeness that is Gina, who is one of the most impressive people I've ever met. Smart, funny, sexy, and very together.

But it's also what she brings out in me. I've been a very closed person for all of my life, and that's all changed now. She gives me a safe place emotionally. So, I can allow myself to feel, and not only feel, but indulge my feelings. And actually (gasp) enjoy them. Something I would have thought impossible a very short time ago.

So, thanks, babe. I am so enjoying the ride with you, wherever it takes us. You've given me an incredible gift, the gift of safety and security. And the amazing thing is that you've convinced me that I actually AM safe and secure with you. What an accomplishment.

Happy Birthday

I had started a long post to commemorate my brother Eric's 49th birthday, but it was far too sappy.

So, let me just say that as facile as I may be with the language, there is no way for me to adequately express how proud I am of Eric, and how proud I am to be his brother.

Happy birthday, man. I love you.
